Supplies for Oreo Spiders

Oreo Halloween Spiders Ingredients 1

One of the best parts of making these spider treats is that they require so few ingredients. All you need is Oreo cookies – Double Stuf are best – and Twizzler Pull and Peel, candy eyeballs, and peanut butter or icing.

Peanut Butter vs. Frosting: to be honest, I had planned to use frosting. But the can of icing I had was so old, it was separating, so I threw it away. And I didn’t want to make icing, because this was meant to be a quick activity. But I love to spread peanut butter inside my Oreos on a normal basis, so I used the peanut butter as my food glue. You can use icing or peanut butter; I like to think the peanut butter is just a tad healthier. HA.

Prepping Ahead

If you want your young kids to help make these, I suggest a bit of prep ahead of time. If your kids are under 4, I recommend twisting the Oreos apart ahead of time. Camden tried to do it, but broke a lot of them.

You can also cut a length of Pull and Peel into 4 sections ahead of time, so that all the kids have to do is peel the strands apart and they’ll have legs for their spiders.

Making the Oreo Spiders

Spread peanut butter on Oreos 1

Twist the Oreos apart and set the side with the icing aside for the moment.

Spread a thick layer of peanut butter (but not so thick that it’ll ooze out!) onto each plain cookie half.

Quarter a rope of Pull and Peel and then separate the strands. Press 8 strands into the peanut butter – 4 on each side – to make 8 legs. You’ll be left with one strand, so collect those for other spiders (or eat it!).

Press the icing side on top of the peanut butter and legs side. Use peanut butter on the back of the eyeballs to ‘glue’ them to the top of the Oreos.

Serve these the same day that you make them, because Oreos get stale quickly when they’re left out in open air. You can cover them with plastic wrap if you make them a day early, but they’re still best when made the day of.

Creative Ways to Use Oreo Spiders

  • Make Halloween Fufetti cupcakes and after icing the cupcakes, place an Oreo spider on top of each one for a decadent, adorable dessert!
  • Package Oreo Spiders individually for a fun party favor or treat!

If you’re looking to make other fun Halloween treats, check out these Peanut Butter Spider Cookies, featuring peanut butter cookies topped with mini Reese’s peanut butter cups and made to look like spiders. These would be so cute to pair with the Oreo Spiders!

Also, I shared these Candy Corn Cupcakes over on Pop Shop America, and they’d be a delicious addition to a Halloween party spread as well! They’re made with cake mix and Greek yogurt, and they’ve even got a healthier Greek Yogurt frosting!
