How to Make Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies

Hocus Pocus is my favorite favorite favorite Halloween movie. I’ve watched it every single year for as long as I can remember. I read the book (and the sequel now) every year. And now, nowwwwww the sequel is being released this Friday, September 30th, on Disney+. To celebrate, I made these Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies!

Even the ingredients are simple: brownie mix (plus all the ingredients listed on the back), candy eyeballs, and black icing. I see a lot of other bloggers making something similar, and they’re using wonderful homemade brownies to do it. But, you guys, I have two little kids (one who wants to help bake) and I just don’t have time to make brownies from scratch. So make it easy on yourself, and just use a boxed mix. But you can always make a batch of your favorite homemade brownies as well.

Decorating the Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies

Mix up your brownie batter.

Pour into a sprayed 13×9 dish (I line mine with foil for easier cleanup) and bake according to the directions on the back of the box.

Let the brownies cool completely and then cut into 12 rectangles.

Put a dab of icing on the back of a candy eyeball and place the eyeball on the right side of the brownie. Repeat on all 12 brownies.

Draw a straight line down the left side of the brownie. Then draw a squiggly line alongside it.

Draw curves on the upper and lower righthand corners and add a couple dots of icing to the middle.

Use the icing to make a circle around the eyeball.

That’s it! These Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies are actually pretty simple, and once you get the hang of your icing, they go pretty quickly!

Is This Recipe Kid-Friendly?

Yes! Making boxed brownies is suuuuuper kid friendly. Camden loves to dump in the powdered mix, crack the eggs and stir the brownies.

The decorating is for sure kid-friendly if your child is about 7 or so. Camden ‘glued’ on the eyeballs and let me do the icing decorations. He decorated his own spell book with his own decorations too. And he insisted on the addition of some Halloween sprinkles too!

These Hocus Pocus Spell Book Brownies are so easy but fit the theme so well! If you’re headed to a watch party (you know I am!) or you’re having a family movie night, these brownies are the perfect addition.
