Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip

This Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip melds some amazing flavors into one savory, delicious, easy, 4 ingredient dip. This is the dip your Super Bowl party (or any other get-together) has been missing!

Right around Christmas time, Hidden Valley Ranch gifted me with a stocking full of ranch. Like, not a cloth stocking full of ranch packets, but a plastic stocking full of like, a half gallon of ranch dressing!

It was so thoughtful of Hidden Valley to send it, and now we’ve got enough ranch to last us MONTHS. In our house, that’s probably enough for the entire year.

But it DID inspire me to create some ranch-based recipes, (1) because ranch is delicious and (2) because I want to make sure I use the dressing up before it expires.

The first thing I made with the ranch dressing was this Bacon Cheddar Ranch Grilled Cheese. My toddler thought this stuff was amazing and he’s not wrong!

And then I decided to create this Bacon Cheddar Ranch dip, because it sounded like the perfect game day dip recipe. Since the Super Bowl is coming up, I can think of a few people who would love this stuff!

Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip – the Ingredients

You only need 4 simple ingredients for this dip recipe (plus whatever you choose to dip in it). Here’s your quick-view, handy grocery list:

  • 1 (16 oz) container sour cream
  • 3/4 cup of bottled ranch dressing
  • 4 slices bacon (I recommend a thick-cut if you’ve got it!)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

You can surely tell from the ingredients that this is in no way a healthy recipe, but man, it’s so worth the calories!

Making the Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip

Cook your 4 slices of bacon with whatever method you prefer. I usually cook it on my griddle or in my oven, but skillet or microwave are acceptable methods too! Pepper the bacon slices while you’re cooking them (always pepper your bacon – the flavor boost is amazing!).

Make sure you cook the bacon to be very crunchy (but not burnt!). You want a good crunch to add texture to your Bacon Cheddar Ranch dip.

Remove the bacon from your preferred cooking method, and drain it on paper towels. Get off as much grease as you can so that the meat doesn’t get your dip all greasy. Let the bacon cool and then rip/tear/crumble the bacon into small pieces.

In a large bowl, stir together 16 ounces of sour cream and 3/4 cup of bottled ranch dressing. Note: You can make your own ranch dressing; just make sure it’s a similar consistency to bottled dressing).

Taste the dip – if the ranch flavor isn’t enough, add a bit more ranch, up to another 1/4 cup. The ranch flavor will get stronger as it sits, and adding any more than 1 cup will start making your dip too runny.

Gently stir in shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon pieces. Save a handful of cheese and a few bacon crumbles to top your dip with for presentation.

Let the dip sit for 30 minutes before serving. This lets the bacon and ranch flavors meld into the sour cream, but the bacon is still crisp and delicious!

Serving Suggestions for Your Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip

There’s such a huge variety of things you can use as dippables for your Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip:

  • tortilla chips: classic, and my husband’s choice
  • veggie straws: a slight bit healthier and my/my toddler’s choice
  • homemade pita chips
  • fresh veggies: carrots, celery sticks, sliced bell pepper, etc
  • crackers: Triscuits or Ritz would be a good choice
  • small, toasted baguette slices: topping these with the dip would make such a delicious little appetizer!

Storing the Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip Leftovers:

If you’re lucky enough to have some leftovers, you want to store them and make sure you can enjoy the dip tomorrow. Store the dip in an airtight container in your refrigerator. It’s best eaten within 48 hours, but it will stay good for 3 or 4 days. The bacon will lose it’s crispness after a few hours, but it still tastes just as delicious! Plus the ranch only gets better as time goes on.
