Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day in your house? My husband and I don’t usually do anything for each other; we never have. Our anniversary is at the beginning of April, so we just save a romantic celebration for that instead.

But, now that I have Camden, I like to do a little bit of celebrating for him. I think Valentine’s Day is a great day to give my kid a little extra loving and spoiling. Last year I dressed him up in a cute little outfit, and I bought him the board book I Love You, Stinky Face.

Camden Valentines Day outfit

Aww, look at him! He was only 2 weeks old for his first Valentine’s Day.

I found a brand new Carter’s outfit at a garage sale for this year’s Valentine’s Day. I plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day every year with a cute shirt/onesie for him (I should use my Cricut and make one next year!), and I’ll buy him a book. That’s sort of my holiday tradition already – a book at every holiday. You can’t go wrong by adding more books to your kids’ collections, can you??

Maybe next year I’ll make a cute Valentine’s breakfast, but for this year, Camden doesn’t know or care. So we’ll just do a new book and call it good.

Here’s a list of 10 really great board books for toddlers; I know them all and I highly recommend every one of them:

I Love You, Stinky Face by Lisa McCourt

This book doesn’t mention Valentine’s Day specifically, but it’s all about love. The little boy keeps asking “but mama, but mama, what if…?” because he’s worried that if any of these things happened, she wouldn’t love him anymore. The way she accepts each thing he says and promises to still love him is adorable, and it gives me all the warm fuzzies every time we read it.

Love Monster by Rachel Bright

In this adorable board book, Love Monster wants to fit in Cutesville, but no one seems to want to love a monster when they could be loving kittens and puppies. He has to search for love, and when he least expects it – he finds it! This book is so, so cute, and it’s the one I’m getting for Camden this year! I’m in love with it.

llama llama i love you

Llama Llama I Love You by Anna Dewdney

I love all the Llama Llama books, but I will admit, they can be a bit long for a young toddler. This one, however, is a one sentence per page book, which is perfect for 1 years old with short attention spans. And it’s cute, like all the other Llama Llama books. Little Llama is making valentines for everyone to show them how much he loves them. For a slightly older toddler, this would be a great introduction to have them make a valentine for daddy, grandma, etc.

where is babys valentine

Where is Baby’s Valentine? by Karen Katz

Karen Katz’s Baby series is cute. This Valentine’s one is no exception. Toddlers will look and search with Baby for her valentine, and every page has flaps to lift. Camden is just learning how to notice and lift flaps, so this is a great choice! It’s also a simple one sentence per page read.

Snuggle Puppy by Sandra Boynton

This book is about the love between parent and child, and it is adorable!! The mom or dad sings a little love song about how much they love their child. I can see this becoming a nightly routine in our house. I can’t get enough of this one!

Ollie’s Valentine by Olivier Dunrea

All of the Ollie books are cute, and this is no exception. With simple text, it tells the story of Ollie wondering how everyone else got a Valentine and trying to figure out where his is at. Very cute!

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff

In this story, Mouse makes a valentine for each of his friends. On each page, he tells who he is making one for and why he loves them. This is great to help toddlers start talking about why they love different people in their family or friends.

babies loves valentines

Babies Love Valentines by Holly Berry-Byrd

This is a lift-the-flap book, and it is great quality! Not only are the pages thick, the flaps are thick too, so your toddler won’t rip them off accidentally. Each page talks about a different typical Valentine item (flowers, candy hearts, chocolates, etc) and has a flap for your toddler to peek through. Simple and fun!

lillys chocolate heart by kevin henkes

Lilly’s Chocolate Heart by Kevin Henkes

In this cute story, Lilly is looking for the perfect place to put her chocolate heart to keep forever. She finally finds the best spot – in her mouth! Very cute and perfect for the slightly older toddler.

follow my heart finger mazes

Follow My Heart Finger Mazes

This book has a finger maze on every page. Your toddler traces his finger along the maze to help each animal find their perfect match! It’s interactive and cute – I love finger maze books for older toddlers!

Books are my favorite holiday gifts, and these cute Valentine’s Day books are no exceptions! I hope you found a great one for the toddler (or toddlers) in your life!
